Shaping Melbourne’s Future: Site HQ’s Role in the West Gate Tunnel Project
Since 2019, Site HQ has proudly supported the delivery of the West Gate Tunnel Project, Melbourne’s largest road infrastructure project since CityLink opened in 1998.
Delivered as a partnership between the Victorian Government and Transurban, this city-shaping, multi-billion-dollar project has transformed travel across Melbourne’s west. Spanning a 17-kilometre corridor, the project incorporates a highly complex network of twin tunnels, elevated roadways, bridges, freeway widening works and new connections designed to improve capacity, safety and network resilience for more than 200,000 vehicles every day.
With major construction commencing in 2018 and the tunnel officially opening to traffic in December 2025, the West Gate Tunnel represents one of Victoria’s most significant infrastructure achievements and Site HQ is proud to have played a role in its successful delivery.
Scope of Supply and Installation
Over the course of the project, Site HQ supplied a broad range of temporary works solutions, supporting multiple construction zones simultaneously.
Over the duration of this 6 year project, here are just some of many products the Site HQ team supplied:
- Over 3,838 Temporary fence panels
- Over 2,700 Star pickets
- 8,091 Temporary fence feet
- 123 Acoustic curtains
- Over 1 kilometre of Shadecloth
- Along with a range of water filled barriers, portable toilets and so much more
This scale reflects not only our extensive product fleet, but also our ability to coordinate and execute complex deliveries across a large, dynamic infrastructure footprint.
In parallel with our sales solutions, the project was supported through products supplied and installed by our hire arm, 1300TempFence. This integrated approach allowed project teams to hire where flexibility was required and purchase where long-term deployment made sense, ensuring continuity, cost efficiency and consistency across the project lifecycle.
Project Outcome
With the West Gate Tunnel now open to traffic, the project will deliver long-term benefits for Melbourne; easing congestion, improving freight efficiency, enhancing active transport connections, and creating safer, more reliable travel across the city’s west.
Site HQ is proud to have supported the successful delivery of this landmark infrastructure project and to have contributed to infrastructure that will benefit Victoria for decades to come.
